EMPOWER HEALTH NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASE (NCD) CARE INITIATIVE

Medtronic Labs’ flagship social business in Africa, Empower Health, brings together services and innovative technology to create a unique end-to-end model of care for hypertension and diabetes care for underserved patients. Empower Health provides integrated facility level as well as community level tools and service offerings to improve disease awareness, support screening and referral activities, reduce the burden of disease, and improve the efficiency of managing hypertension and diabetes for both patients and clinicians.

OVERVIEW OF THE COUNTRY DIRECTOR ROLE

We are looking for a passionate Counselling Associate focused on improving health care and patients’ lives. The Counselling Associate will need excellent customer service skills and will play a big role in providing a link from hypertension or diabetic patient to their provider, answer non-treatment questions, sharing health tips with patients and encouraging them to be adherent with their health care plans.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COUNTRY DIRECTOR ROLE

  • Excellent communication skills in English (desired: local languages)
  • Calm demeanor to support calls, counselling patients and referral of patients to providers
  • Good organizational skills
  • Should be able to easily connect and empathize with patients and their providers
  • Support patient’s care provider in managing patients remotely
  • Based on patient responses and relevant ideas, contribute to improving the Empower Health system by sharing feedback and joining innovation sessions
  • Complete weekly Tele-consulting services with Empower Health patients and ensure that assigned tasks and reports are executed successfully and completed within needed time frames to meet program objectives and milestones.
  • Should follow Medtronic’s and Empower Health’s processes and systems
  • Good understanding of MS Office and basic computer skills
  • Collaborate with Empower Health program staff via email, weekly or bi-weekly
  • Complete all required Medtronic and program training
  • Any additional duties assigned to deliver the overall Empower Health Goal

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE AND ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma/ Certificate required in health or biology-related field (nursing preferred)
  • Proactive approach to work and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work individually, with no supervision, and as part of teams, collaboratively
  • Strong interest in improving healthcare access
  • Great customer-facing skills
  • Proven basic counseling experience (strongly preferred)

DESIRABLE

  • Experience working with virtual teams.
  • Experience working in a fast paced office/start-up environment preferred
  • Knowledge of Sierra Leone health systems preferred
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build respectful relationships with colleagues from diverse cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Seed Global Health.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Counselling Associate role will be based in Freetown with some occasional out of duty station travel up to 30% including both domestic and international travel.

COMPENSATION

Competitive base salary commensurate with successful candidate academic qualifications and professional work experience.
