POSITION: Principal for the Hermann Gmeiner International School
SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone was established in 1974 (the village in Freetown being the
second oldest in Africa), we work with partners in communities to help families care for their
children or to provide an alternative, for instance an SOS family, in which the love of a Care Giver
is essential.
Located in Freetown, Bo and Makeni, SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone has a wide range of
programmes (Children’s villages, youth facilities, educational facilities, clinics) which supports
more than 4,199 children in accessing and exercising their rights.
In addition to quality care, we seek to provide quality education to all the children through our
Herman Gmeiner International Schools and Kindergartens through service providers.
SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is recruiting it new Principal for the Hermann
Gmeiner International School, to assume overall responsibility for the successful and effective
running of the school in both academic and administrative areas. Ensure the implementation of
SOS National Child Protection policies and maintain qualitative and efficient service delivery as
well as excellent reputation of the School
S/he must always seek the educational interest and well-being of the pupils/students at all times.
The Principal must maintain good relationships with the relevant and key government and /or
private parastatals/ Offices /departments /INGO’s /NGO’s and their personnel directly servicing
the school through partnerships and cooperation.
You are required to implement SOS CV International inclusive policy within the National
education policies and syllabuses and effective management of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School.
Support in the recruitment and development of suitable qualified and experienced teaching staff in
collaboration with the Children’s Village Manager to enhance maximum performance of
Pupils/Students in all National Examinations
He/she is responsible for the authorization of expenditures, distribution of resources, checking of
inventories- equipment/textbooks/ asset management etc.
Must ensure that all Pupils/student’s right are respected and that most activities within the School
are child centred and child friendly.
You are required to set up a system to efficiently respond to their queries from parents during PTA
meetings and reporting sessions.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Management.
Must have 8-10 years’ experience as qualified senior Teacher and must have served 5 years
capacity as Principal in a renounced Private or Government Assisted or Government School.
A trained, qualified and highly experienced person with previous administrative experience in
senior positions e.g Deputy Head or Head in another School.

Must have knowledge on Child Protection and Child’s Rights Issues.
Having an excellent knowledge and understanding of the aims and understanding of the SOS
Ideals, Vision, Mission and Values is an asset.
Must have a high level of integrity and excellent financial management skills
Must have leadership qualities with a positive approach to work under pressure and be prepared to
work if necessary, outside the normal working hours.
Excellent supervisory, administrative, organizational and communication skills.
Strong commitment and dedication the SOS association, staff, students and parents.
